What is the FreizeitCARD?
The FreizeitCARD is an all-inclusive ticket for visitors to the Rhineland-Palatinate & Saarland region. After paying a one-off price for the card, you are entitled to free admission at a range of participating attractions. For some attractions, such as riverboat cruises, the FreizeitCARD gives you a discount on the standard price. Participating youth hostels provide cardholders who are staying overnight with a packed lunch. How does the FreizeitCARD work?
The cards are numbered, embedded with a chip and must be signed on the back prior to use. All participating attractions are equipped with card-reading terminals. Simply present your FreizeitCARD at the counter. We keep statistics on the use of the cards so we can continuously improve the scheme.
What types of FreizeitCARD are available?
- „24-hour card“:
The 24-hour card can be used within any 24 consecutive hours during the period of validity (1 April-31 March of the following year). The card's validity period commences when it is first used at an attraction.
- „3-day card“:
The 3-day card can be used on any three days during the period of validity (1 April-31 March of the following year). After reading the card, the terminal will display the number of remaining days.
- „6-day card“:
The 6-day card can be used on any six days during the period of validity (1 April-31 March of the following year). After reading the card, the terminal will display the number of remaining days.
What about the children's card?
The children's card, valid for ages six to 14, comes in the same format as the full-priced card (24-hour, 3-day and 6-day) but costs less. A card for children aged up to five years comes free when you purchase a full-priced card.
Please note:at the time the card is used, the child's age has to correspond to the type of FreizeitCARD in use. A six year old should have a standard children's card (not a free card for children aged five and under), and a 15 year old should have a full-priced card. Please take this into account before you make your purchase. Ticket office staff are entitled to verify the ages of children in all cases. Full price may be charged if the child has the wrong type of card for their age.
When does the FreizeitCARD become valid?
The validity period of the card begins when it is first used at an attraction. Cards do not need to be activated prior to use. The 24-hour card is valid for the 24 hours which follow its first use. The 3-day and 6-day cards can be used on any days of your choice during the period of validity. The days do not have to be consecutive. Once used, the card is valid for the remainder of the calendar day.
Do I need to specify the days on which I wish to use the 3-day or 6-day card?
No, you can choose any days you wish at any time during the period of validity.
Can I order the FreizeitCARD online?
The FreizeitCARD can be ordered online from www.freizeitcard.info to which there is a link from the Rheinland-Pfalz Tourismus GmbH website. Online orders incur a charge of €1.44 for postage.
How do I get the ADAC discount?
Members of the German Automobile Association (ADAC) get 10 per cent off their online order when they enter their membership number. This discount only applies to orders made at the www.freizeitcard.info website.
Can I combine discounts?
No, discounts (Christmas discount, early-order-discount, PartnerCard discount) cannot be combined when ordering online.
Are there any concessions when buying a FreizeitCARD?
There are no concessions for students, senior citizens, disabled people or similar groups.
Is there a family ticket?
There is no family ticket.

The guide comes free with every full-priced FreizeitCARD. This dual-language guide (German and English) features information on all participating attractions and is updated every year. Alternatively, theFreizeitCARD guide is available at various retail outlets and from Buchhandlung Reuffel in Koblenz for €7.95.
Can I visit a particular attraction more than once with my FreizeitCARD?
The FreizeitCARD is valid for only one visit at each attraction. The 24-hour card does not include admission to Holiday Park Hassloch, ring°werk at the Nürburgring and the Gondwana museum of prehistoric life.
Which public transport services can I use free of charge with the FreizeitCARD?
In Saarland, the FreizeitCARD is valid on public transport services operated by saarVV (Saarländischer Verkehrsverbund). The FreizeitCARD entitles you to unlimited travel on all public transport in the saarVV network on days on which the card is being used. The price of the reduced ticket is calculated according to the number of zones entered in addition to the Saarbrücken 111 and Völklingen 191 zones. On indirect journeys, each zone you travel into counts. Each zone only counts once, though, however many times you enter it. Tickets can be bought at ticket machines and from the bus driver. Checks are carried out to ensure that the correct information has been entered on the back of the ticket. FreizeitCARD holders are required to enter the date (and, in the case of the 24-hour ticket, the time) on the back of the ticket when it is first used. If this information is missing or if the name on the FreizeitCARD does not match that of the holder then a €40.00 fine is liable to be paid. saarVV price regulations and conditions of carriage apply. Ticket costs cannot be reimbursed.
Is it true that I get 10 per cent off my FreizeitCARD if I have a one-day train ticket for Rhineland-Palatinate or the Saarland?
The FreizeitCARD is also available in Deutsche Bahn travel centres in Rhineland-Palatinate and the Saarland. If you buy a Rhineland-Palatinate ticket or Saarland ticket at the same time, or if you present one that you have purchased in advance, you get 10 per cent off the price of your 24-hour FreizeitCARD.
If I lose my FreizeitCARD, can I get a replacement?
Unfortunately, cards cannot be replaced if they are lost.
Can other people use my FreizeitCARD?
The FreizeitCARD bears the name of the holder and must be signed before use. They are non-transferable and cannot be used by anyone else.
Can unused days/unused cards be carried over?
Unused cards or unused days on a card cannot be carried over once the period of validity has expired.
Does the maximum height for children's admission at Hassloch Holiday Park apply to FreizeitCARD holders?
At Hassloch Holiday Park, children over one metre in height pay full price. This does not apply to FreizeitCARD holders. Eligible holders of the children's FreizeitCARD who are no older than 14 years are entitled to free entry to the park even if they are taller than one metre.
